History of Minecraft

The best selling video game of all time is a game called Minecraft. Minecraft is a sandbox video game with a distinctive blocky art style. The main goal of the game is to collect items to go to a different dimension called The End where you fight one of the bosses in the game called the Ender Dragon. After this fight the credits will play, but there are so many other things to do. Minecraft has hundreds of different blocks, tools, and other materials to collect. You can build structures, fight monsters, explore biomes, and so much more. Minecraft is as popular as it is because of the amount of opportunities to explore and the amount of creativity that is able to be expressed.

Minecraft was made by a man named Markus Persson more commonly known as Notch. The first edition of Minecraft was Minecraft Java Edition and it was made public in 2009. At this time it was still in the beta and the alpha would not be released until 2010. In 2011 the full version of the game was released and Jens Bergensten better known as Jeb took over full creative control of the game from Notch. Throughout this time Minecraft was still getting updates increasing the popularity of the game. It got so popular that in 2014 Microsoft bought the company that came about because of Minecraft, Mojang, for 2.5 billion dollars. Since then Minecraft has only gotten bigger and more popular making tons of money and spawning several spinoffs that have increased the brands popularity.
