History of Video Games
This web page is dedicated to information about some of the most popular video games in the world. The first ever video game was created in 1958 by a man named William Higinbotham. Higinbotham was a physicist who at the time worked at the Brookhaven National Laboratory. He worked for the instrumentation division where he was the head of the department. His job was to create an exhibit for visitor day to show off his group’s work. Since he thought most of the exhibits were not interesting enough, Higinbotham decided to create an interactive piece to catch peoples attention. The piece that was created was called Tennis for Two which was tennis game somewhat similar to pong.
Since then video games have only gotten more complex and a lot more popular. Video games now make up a multi-billion dollar industry and there are over five million games in existence. In 2022 alone revenue from the video game industry was estimated to be about 350 billion dollars, and there are over 3 billion active video game players worldwide. The most popular video games have set precedents for the entire gaming industry. This website contains just a few of the most popular video games that I find very interesting.
